Reiki First Level
The Reiki First Level (First Degree Reiki) is the starting point in the Reiki system -- it's the entry level. In the first level of Reiki, the Reiki Master will give you the attunement.
The Reiki Symbols are placed in your Aura and Chakras, but they are not revealed to you.
The Attunement will permanently open your Crown Chakra, the "third eye," throat, and heart Chakra so that you will be able to channel Reiki. At this level, you will be able to heal yourself, family, friends, pets, etc.

Reiki Second Level
The second step is Reiki Second Level (Second Degree Reiki) and a Reiki Master gives the Attunement once the student has received the First Level Attunement. During the Attunement, the student is attuned to the first three Reiki Symbols which enables them to use them in their healing. The Symbols give the Healer many options, including increasing the strength of the Reiki, helping with mental and emotional issues, and the ability to send Reiki over time and space (long distance healing) to any person or situation for healing.
You can take this second Attunement when you feel you are ready. Some people take the second within days of receiving the first Attunement so they will have the benefit of using the Reiki Symbols.

Reiki Master
The final step (Attunement) is the Master Level (third degree). This Attunement empowers you with a Reiki Master Symbol and gives the ability to pass all the Attunements to other students and be a Reiki Teacher. It also increases your Reiki Healing and opens up your third eye.
You are ready for the Master Attunement once you have received the first two level Attunements and you are ready to take on the responsibility of being a Reiki Master.

Reiki Practice
1. close your eyes, breathe deeply, relax, do all your pre-meditation things.
2. visualize a bucket.
3. in your scene, make it rain. see the water gather in the bucket.
4. keep raining, until it overflows.
5. now, make a sponge. soak up all the excess water.

How does this relate to reiki? here is how. You are the bucket. The rain is energy. The sponge is the patient/who you heal. When it rains, you are gathering energy. You gather more and more energy until it overflows from you to the patient.
You have to program yourself to gather reiki energy at some point, to be sure you get the right energy. this will work with any type of energy, but reiki/healing energy works best.
